The Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid offers an optional Panoramic View Monitor and it also offers an optional rear camera washer to make backing always safe, regardless of road dirt or grime, while the Chevrolet Bolt doesn’t offer a camera washer, requiring manual cleaning.

Both the Prius Plug-In Hybrid and the Bolt have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available around view monitors.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Bolt’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).

Toyota pays for scheduled maintenance on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid for 2 years and 25000 miles. Toyota will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Chevrolet only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Bolt.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota fourth in reliability, above the industry average. With 7 more problems per 100 vehicles, Chevrolet is ranked fifth.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Chevrolet vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota first in overall reliability. Chevrolet is ranked 17th.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 10 more horsepower (220 vs. 210) than the Bolt’s electric motor.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid SE’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 606 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The Bolt’s range is only 262 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 25 minutes for only an 80% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge using a conventional 110-volt outlet can take up to 65 hours and 30 minutes.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid has a standard locking fuel door with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The Bolt doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and a locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE/Nightshade has standard 19-inch wheels. The Bolt’s largest wheels are only 17-inches.

For superior ride and handling, the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Chevrolet Bolt has a rear torsion beam axle, with a semi-independent rear suspension.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid has standard front and rear stabilizer bars, which help keep the Prius Plug-In Hybrid flat and controlled during cornering. The Bolt’s suspension doesn’t offer a rear stabilizer bar.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s wheelbase is 3 inches longer than on the Bolt (108.3 inches vs. 105.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Prius Plug-In Hybrid is 2 inches wider in the front and 2.7 inches wider in the rear than on the Bolt.

For better maneuverability, the Prius Plug-In Hybrid SE’s turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the Bolt’s (34.4 feet vs. 37.7 feet). The Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE/Nightshade’s turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the Bolt’s (35.4 feet vs. 37.7 feet).

The Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 300 pounds less than the Chevrolet Bolt.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid is 8 inches shorter in height than the Bolt, making the Prius Plug-In Hybrid much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid has 3.4 inches more front hip room, .7 inches more front shoulder room, 1.6 inches more rear hip room and .8 inches more rear shoulder room than the Bolt.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid has a much larger cargo volume than the Bolt with its rear seat up (20.3 vs. 16.2 cubic feet).

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the Prius Plug-In Hybrid easier. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s trunk lift-over height is 29.2 inches, while the Bolt’s liftover is 30.4 inches.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE Premium has a standard power liftgate, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The Bolt doesn’t offer a power cargo door.

When two different drivers share the Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE Premium, the memory seats make it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position. The Bolt doesn’t offer memory seats.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE Premium’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Bolt doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Bolt’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Bolt’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Both the Prius Plug-In Hybrid and the Bolt offer available heated front seats. The Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE Premium also offers optional heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Bolt.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Bolt.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid XSE Premium’s optional Advanced Park can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Bolt doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
